Cyber-Sex. Pornography. Infidelity. Anonymous sex. Massage parlors and strip clubs. The double life you have been living has been discovered. Now your marriage or relationship is in crisis and needs help.
In addition to his Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, Sam is also a pioneer in the field of sex addiction treatment as he is among the first Asian-American therapists specializing in this field with more than 10 years of experience in this field. He has also received additional clinical training in the field of sex addiction and problematic sexual behaviors by Dr. Patrick Carnes, Dr. Claudia Black, and a number of sex addiction experts affiliated with the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health.
His work and understanding in this field is that addiction needs to be treated as an intimacy disorder. Much of his work is focused on attachment and intimacy skill-building (i.e. setting boundaries, communication, anger management, expression of thoughts/feelings) compared to traditional behavioral approaches that focus more on stopping a behavior. While eliminating a behavior is necessary, what’s vital for sustained sexual health is an understanding of the motives, negative thought distortions, cultural and family dynamics that cause some of the underlying destructive sexual drives.
In addition to this approach, Sam’s treatment is highly individualized for each client. He recognizes that each person has his/her own unique set of circumstances and life story that led to addiction and honors that by avoiding a “cookie-cutter” approach to therapy.

Sam’s Background:
Sam’s interest and understanding in the field of sex addiction began nearly ten years ago after researching the role of family dynamics, culture, and shame on addictions. Growing up in an Asian immigrant household, he has seen first-hand the devastating impact of addictions such as gambling and sex on his family and in the greater Asian community at large. Most recently, he published a book that touches on the themes of Asian culture, addictions, and Christianity. Asian Honor: Overcoming the Culture of Silence
Christian Counseling:
While some of his writing and speaking is centered from a Christian perspective, he does not introduce this into psychotherapy unless it is the client’s preference. Persons of all faith traditions and cultural backgrounds are welcome.
Having said that, our belief is in a personal God who wants to enter into our wounds, not only to bring about healing, transformation, and restoration but ultimately redemption. Redemption where our experiences of shame, addiction, abuse, or neglect can be shared in community with one another.
“Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—those he redeemed from the hand of the foe” -Psalm 107:2
