Sex Addiction Escalation: Heterosexual Men engaging in Homosexual Behaviors
When a straight guy is acting out sexually, there may come a time where the addiction escalates to homosexual activity. Wives are shocked and sometimes wonder if their husband is gay.
Most of the time, this is not a case about sexual orientation but about sexual exploitation. The hetereosexual men who I’ve worked with often are tired of the time, energy, and sometimes money spent on finding women to get their sexual hit.
In these cases, it escalates to sex acts with other men whom they see as a source of getting a quick sexual release. Yet, it does indicate the pernicious and uncontrollable nature of the addiction when sexual behaviors get to this point of being so indiscriminate that it doesn’t matter who or what (i.e. animals) an addict will engage with so long as he gets his sexual fix.
For spouses, they need reassurance that most straight men (unless they say otherwise) who are acting out sexually with other men are not gay. It’s a sign of the deep pain they’re in when it escalates to crossing sexual orientation or having pets perform sex acts on them.
There are no easy answers other than the arduous work of therapy to stop the behaviors and get to the root of the addiction.
